Three new retailers will open their doors in our attractive Garden Level, and one will welcome visitors on our Upper Level across from Piggly Wiggly. The new merchants joining us this year include:

“We are excited about the momentum that’s building here at Country Walk Shops,” said Kathy Toerpe of Door County Scrapbooking, a member of the Country Walk Board of Directors. “In the past five years, eight merchants have opened new locations here, bringing a great level of energy and innovation.”
Doug Schwartz, co-owner with his wife and daughter of The Cook Book and Board President, agreed. “Since we moved here from our previous location three years ago, we have seen our business grow. Even in a difficult economy, people want to be active doing the things they enjoy, whether it’s cooking, reading books, or quilting.”
The new retailers are looking forward to success in their new ventures. “We are excited to join the growing Country Walk Shops in the Sister Bay community,” said Scott & Belkis Dell, owners of Cheescake, Etc. “In our efforts to open a new business, all have been very welcoming. As we look to establish another successful business, we anticipate becoming more involved in helping increase the attractiveness of Door County as a vacation destination.” The Dells join more than 25 other businesses in Country Walk, some of whom have operated continuously here for more than 2 decades.
Country Walk Shops is home to over 30 businesses, including food and dining; fashion, beauty and hair care; hobbies and specialty gifts; and professional services. Friday, March 27 6:00 p.m.
This year marks the 250th anniversary of Guinness beer. Join me on Friday, March 27 for a fun filled evening featuring a five course Irish themed dinner and cooking class featuring menu items that use Guinness beer.
The evening begins with a one hour cooking demonstration featuring the recipes being served at the dinner. After dinner, participants will be seated in our main floor dining room and enjoy a terrific Irish themed dinner. The first course of our Irish feast will be delicious oysters with steam cabbage and smoked bacon napped with a Guinness flavored hollandaise sauce. Our salad of organic spring greens will be topped with thinly sliced smoked salmon and steamed asparagus with a mustard vinaigrette. Dinner will be a succulent pork tenderloin which has been marinated in Guinness, garlic, fresh rosemary and a hint of honey. The pork will be grilled and finished with a wild mushroom sauce and Guinness onion rings.
For dessert, we switch to Ireland's other great beverage, Irish Cream. A bittersweet Irish Cream chocolate mousse tower will be served for dessert.

Birchwood Lodge Receives 2008 Best of Sister Bay Award
U.S. Local Business Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement
WASHINGTON D.C., July 29, 2008 -- Birchwood Lodge has been selected for
the 2008 Best of Sister Bay Award in the Hotels category by the U.S.
Local Business Association (USLBA).
The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding
local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies
companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success
in their local community and business category. These are local
companies that enhance the positive image of small business through
service to their customers and community.
Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the
winners in each category. The 2008 USLBA Award Program focused on
quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information
gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.

Relaxing on the Peninsula
We were walking through the beautiful garden areas at The Coachlite Inn in Sister Bay, when we came across this colorful chaise lounge. Someone was taking a break, but the open book and glasses sitting on the chaise lounge just was a perfect scene!
Someone was enjoying a relaxing time here on the Peninsula! You can too!

Argh, Matey! Mini-Golfing at Pirate's Cove!
Well, we had a fun time mini-golfing at Pirate's Cove in Sister Bay! Despite our group getting 5 hole-in-ones (!), we did not win a free game! The secret hole-in-one hole is announced when you complete your game and we missed getting a hole-in-one on 18! Argh! Fun course - great at night, and fully themed with pirate lore and history at each hole. Read our Review!
Have fun, "Fire at Will!"

Johnson' Park Fun!

Had a great time mini-golfing and Go-Karting at Johnson' Park in Sister Bay. We always enjoy a round of mini-golf there, amidst the trees, waterfalls and beautiful landscaping.
And Go-Karting - well, that's fun anytime, and this is the only place to do it up here.
P.S. Read our review and print out a coupon to save some $$!
Tell them we sent you over - great family-run business.
Dan
You can even watch a video of Johnson's! Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
Pastry Time at La Patisserie
Well, first time here, and enjoying it. They have sandwiches, but most of all it's a pastry shop - wood floors, tables, books and great pastries! Just had a Blanc and Noir - rich white and dark chocolate, and a nice cup of coffee!
Dinner will have to wait. . .
Time to head out. If you try this place, tell Joni we sent ya!

Heard on the Street - A Couple of Closings

Unfortunately, one of our favorite dining places, The Cookery in Fish Creek, has had a major fire, and the restaurant will be closed until February 2009. Very sad - Carol and Dick and their whole family are great folks, and have been running the restaurant from 1977. We will miss it for this upcoming season, and wish them a speedy return.
Also, Village Wok in Sister Bay (Country Walk Shops) has closed. A new Italian restaurant, Pasta Vino, opened in the same spot. More on that later.
If you've dined at The Cookery and liked it, please tell us below and we'll collect up a bunch of your nice comments and we'll send them along to Carol and Dick(the owners) to maybe make them feel a little bit better!

Great Day at Fred and Fuzzy's!

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Dinner. . .
In Baileys Harbor, we dined at the Florian II restaurant. We had a table at the window overlooking the lake - very nice. Food was awesome, so we asked to speak to one of the owners, chef/owner Jerry. Great guy, been doing this for 32 years, and loves it! It shows.
Fun time - now it's really time to rest.
Bread Pudding Break
Well, a foggy day in Door County. We just shot another video at Little Sister Resort in Sister Bay. About to shoot another but we just finished some great soup and super bread pudding at the Second Story Restaurant, above Ephraim Shores Motel - awesome!
Well . . . Back to work!

Heard on the Street
We also heard that Casey's Restaurant, also in Egg Harbor, is for sale. We liked the owner from last year and the quality, so hopefully we will get more of the same with a new owner.
If you remember Helm's Four Seasons lodge in Sister Bay, well, Sister Bay purchased the property, and Helm's is being torn down as we BLOG! We drove by to take a look at what it looked like, and it's about 1/3 down already. Sister Bay plans on adding that waterfront property to it's existing, adjacent park. Should be nice for visitors and locals.
Look for more news as we get it!
