Here and there

One of my favorite places in Door County is Junction Center, a yoga studio in Egg Harbor (actually closer to Jacksonport) If you love yoga, this is a great place to come. We traverse an open field, walk through a path of evergreens before entering an old barn that has been converted to a fantastic yoga studio—available props, wood floors, sound system, some mirrors on walls.

Kathy and Laura are seasoned and well-studied yoga teachers. They offer classes for all levels. I am in the intermediate class, but there is gentle and level one if you are just getting started. Advanced is also available. If you are just staying here for a long weekend, you can pay a $12 drop-in class fee. Check out their Web site for a current class schedule.

The place is a tad crowded in the summer. Oh, and yoga gear is also sold here. Some of the stock has been moved to Green n Grains (Kathy’s food store in Egg Harbor), but it will be moved back in the spring. I have picked up great yoga pants, tops and more. Until next time, see you here and there on the Door Peninsula, Donna Marie Pocius, freelance writer.

Taking a Break at Weisgerber's

Getting dark so we wrapped up our video work in Baileys Harbor. Hungry and cold, we ducked into Weisgerber's for some refreshments and some wings. In downtown Baileys Harbor, Weisgerber's is a bar and restaurant. The bartender, Ryan, recommended the wings with teriyaki sauce - excellent - try them this way. We are still here - soon heading back to Egg Harbor.

Ellison Bluff County Park

We headed further north to Ellison Bay - and Ellison Bluff County park. It is a spectacular winter site. We'll include it in another of our DoorCountyNavigator.com winter videos!

In Peninsula State Park - Beautiful With Lots of Snow

We are filming in Peninsula State Park right now and just met a couple of cross-country skiers - "a perfect day for this" Nate said. He was embarking on a 15 mile trail. "You have to keep fit in the winter," he said.

A bit earlier we saw a man ice fishing in Fish Creek. What a day! Look for these soon in our new winter video.

More Winter In Door County!

Well, we are enjoying some hot coffee and a burger at the Bayside Tavern in Fish Creek after shooting more winter video that will be on the site soon!

It is a cold, shivery day - about 23 degrees - so the coffee feels good! We will shoot more tomorrow, so if you see us say hi!

Here and there

We have about four inches of sports-quality snow on the ground in Egg Harbor. This could provide a great base for winter sports this weekend. Check with your favorite park on their conditions.

One place always open in any weather and for long hours is HyLine Orchard, 8240 Hwy 42, Fish Creek. Loretta Robertoy, owner, is often the person behind the counter as you enter the rustic building. No frills and fancy displays. That’s for sure. But a lot of items on the shelves are homemade by Loretta and her family. Loretta was touting her new cherry salsa when I was there before Christmas (then, I picked up some bookmarks for my editors showing art by a Wisconsin painter—Loretta has lots of trinkets, too). But I digress. The salsa is great for chips and snacks during football games, according to Loretta. My personal favorite is her taffy apples, extremely fresh and generous but only available in fall season. Until next time, see you here and there on the Door Peninsula, Donna Marie Pocius, freelance writer.

Here and there

I was excited to find an invitation to “Pampering and Practicalities, an Evening for Women”, in my mail this weekend. This is a great event--educational and a fun night out for ladies over the past few years.

People coming from out of town can stay at Stone Harbor Resort, Sturgeon Bay, where the conference is taking place Friday, Jan. 25, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There are also nearby B&Bs and other hotels.

This year’s speaker is Chris Clarke-Epstein on “So Who Pampers the Practical Woman: taking charge of your life through change and taking care of yourself in the process.” Chris is an award-winning speaker, trainer and author, who inspires people to look at their world in a fresh way.

The exhibit area presents a lot of educational information, giveaways, a silent auction and more. At past Pampering and Practicalities events, I have purchased books on poetry and other subjects, locally made skin care products and more.

The whole thing is sponsored by Door County Memorial Hospital/Ministry Health Care to benefit the Family Centers of Door County. So it’s a good cause to boot. More information is available by calling Family Centers of Door County toll free at 800/856-1651 or visit www.doorcountyfamilycenters.com.
