I’m really excited about some of the invitations I have received and some of the things coming up this spring and summer.
Todd Trimberger of Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center sent me an e-mail invitation to the Fire and Ice. That’s a festival going on this weekend, Feb. 15 to 17 in Sturgeon Bay with national champion snow sculptors and a dinner/dance this Saturday. Streetlife, the Milwaukee Bucks house band, is performing. That sounds like fun, www.sturgeonbay.net
And for something a tad further, Janice Thomas, chef and owner of Savory Spoon Cooking School, Ellison Bay, let me know about an upcoming culinary adventure. She has traveled to Mexico with classes, and this spring she is going to France, taking a small group to explore “Flavors of Provence” May 13 to 19. Janice is extremely talented, patient and kind as she teaches cooks of all levels, and I’m certain such an excursion with her would be wonderful. Find out more at www.savoryspoon.com
I’m likely to sign up for one of the Peninsula Art School’s art history classes. They have a great line-up this year, and the catalog is out. Check it out, wwwpeninsulaartschool.com Meanwhile, on the lakeside, Bjorklunden has mailed its catalog of 2008 seminars, and I’m eyeing an American art class.
So there’s lots being planned and oh, there is snow on the ground, too. Call your favorite park as conditions vary. See you here and there on the Door Peninsula, Donna Marie Pocius, freelance writer

Fire & Ice this weekend was fun. We counted 25 sculptures being worked on Saturday morning. But we couldn't figure out how to vote for the People's Choice Award -- all they had was a banner up saying that it was being judged at 2pm and awarded at 4pm. And it would have been nice to have a map of all the locations and businesses who were sponsoring the artists along with little bios on each artist. The only thing the SB Visitor's Bureau had was two tiny flyers with general info.
