Door County Humane Society Fundraiser Coming Up!

We just received this press release!  Support the Door County Humane Society!  We do!
________

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Door County Humane Society Contact: Carrie Counihan
3475 County PD, Box 93 920-746-1111, ext. 4
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 carrie@dooranimals.com

TICKETS ARE GOING FAST: DON’T MISS “SWING FOR THE SHELTER!”

Door County Humane Society Fundraiser Scheduled for Friday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m.

STURGEON BAY, WI (July 23, 2010) – The Door County Humane Society’s annual “Swing for the Shelter” fundraiser is just a week away, and tickets are selling fast. With limited seating available, time is running out for securing space at this cool, elegant, one-of-a-kind evening event.

“Swing for the Shelter” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6 under the Big Top by the Bay in Sister Bay’s Waterfront Park. Tickets are $75 each and are available by calling (920) 746-1111, extension 4; $50 of each ticket is tax-deductible, and proceeds benefit the humane society.

“The buzz has really picked up,” said Carrie Counihan, DCHS’s executive director. “Especially since the Sister Bay Village Board has proclaimed the first week of August ‘Friends of Door County Humane Society Week.’

“But that’s not all,” she added with a chuckle. “We’ve finalized the secret recipe for our Pet Passion Potion cocktail, we’ve confirmed that the Harbor Fish Market and Grill will provide its popular mini lobster rolls, and we’ve heard a rumor that radio personality Chuck Lakefield will be showing off his zoot suit. No one’s going to want to miss that!”

And the lobster rolls won’t be the only fuel on hand for enthusiastic swing dancers jumping and jiving with the Mr. Big Note orchestra. More than 20 of Door County’s top restaurants and chefs will be under the Big Top, providing a variety of savory and sweet treats. They include the Waterfront Restaurant, T Ashwell’s, Mission Grille, Harbor Fish Market & Grille, Inn at Kristopher’s, Alexander’s, Gordon Lodge, Horseshoe Bay Pub & Restaurant, The Cookery Restaurant & Wine Bar, Mr. Helsinki’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, Al Johnson’s Restaurant, Mink River Basin, Trattoria Dal Santo, Hickey Bros. Fisheries, Schreiber Foods, AC Tap, Casey’s, Second Story Restaurant, FlourGirl Patissier, Door County Coffee & Tea Company, Savory Spoon Cooking School and Feast Catering.

And when guests are taking a break from all the refreshments and dancing, they can visit the special Tribute Tree. For a donation, DCHS will honor special pets — those who are still living and those who have passed on.

“This is such a valuable fundraiser for us,” Counihan said. “From the tickets to the cocktails to the Tribute Tree, every dollar helps us offset the hefty cost of our operations and services, which runs approximately $900 per day. But perhaps even more importantly, the event also gives us a wonderful opportunity to create memories with our members, friends and the entire Door County community.”

To learn more about the Door County Humane Society and its special events, and for information about making donations and volunteering, call (920) 746-1111 or or visit www.dooranimals.com. And, to stay up to date on the latest news, become a DCHS fan on Facebook.

The Door County Humane Society provides a safe haven for lost or homeless pets while working to reunite them with their owners or place them with a new loving family. We provide the highest level of care and compassion to each and every animal while providing a friendly, welcoming environment for customers. The Door County Humane Society encourages responsible pet ownership through education, training and spay/neutering. We encourage the public to please come out and visit the shelter and to become a member of the Door County Humane Society.

On Friday, July 23, from 2pm - 5pm, Wilkins & Olander will host a meet and greet for SwitchFlops founder Lindsay Phillips. The event will take place at Wilkins & Olander’s Third Avenue location in Sturgeon Bay.

Copper Kettle Confections Gets New Name: Door County Candy

Copper Kettle Confections in downtown Sturgeon Bay has a new name now: Door County Candy.  In addition, Terry, the owner, moved the shop next door to a much bigger space, and far more accommodating.  We met with Terry again today to check up on the new location and took a quick tour - they were still setting stuff up, but the shop is open for business.

There will be several booths too for eating ice cream and other goodies.  The shop looked very charming and delightful.  So look for Terry's new shop and new location (next door to his old shop) and tell him that DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you!
