Door County Distillery Expanding; Bistro 42 to Close

Carlsville, WI - Door County Distillery is expanding to meet rising demand.  To make room for the expansion they are closing Bistro 42 restaurant on location at 5806 Hwy. 42 Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.  Bistro 42 will be permanently closed after 10 years in business.

The expansion will include a second still and barrel storage area with viewing windows, plus a full bar for sampling the spirits.  New products will be coming out in 2016 with the addition, including a Rye Whiskey and a Bourbon to complete a trio with the already produced Single Malt Whiskey.

The sampling bar will also serve as a craft-cocktail bar that will make specially made drinks using Door County Distillery's award-winning spirits.  The patio will be available to enjoy drinks outside during summer months.  Along with the vodkas, gin, brandy & whiskey; cocktails will feature the Distillery's two most recent products-Java Infusion (a coffee infused spirit) and Barrel Finished Gin.

Door County Distillery has been in operation for 5 years and the addition will allow them to triple capacity to keep up with the demand of the product.  Increased demand is attributed to the rise in popularity of local and craft spirits and the inclusion of Door County Distillery's products in Lambeau Field.  Construction is scheduled to start winter of 2016 to be completed by the summer.

Exhibit of local artist, Lynn Gilchrist, to open Saturday at the Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery.

Carlsville, WI - The Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery is pleased to present the work of Lynn Gilchrist in a solo exhibit on the two floors of its central rotunda from Friday April 24- August 14.  The Opening Reception will be Sunday, April 26, 4:30- 7:00 with Door Peninsula Wines and Bistro 42 appetizers featured.

Lynn Gilchrist's work is represented by Woodwalk Gallery, Egg Harbor which has coordinated this exhibit for the Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery.  The exhibit is open 9am-5pm daily in April and 9am-9pm throughout the summer.  The Winery is located in Carlsville, between Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor on Highway 42.

Gilchrist lives and works in Sturgeon Bay.  She received her BA in Studio Art/ Art History from Oberlin College in Ohio with study at Temple University in Rome and at California Institute of the Arts.  She has won numerous awards, including Best of Show and Purchase Awards at shows in Sacramento, CA, Lake Forest, IL, and Appleton, Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee, Sheboygan and Sturgeon Bay, WI.

Her solo and invitational shows include: Neville Public Museum, Wisconsin Arts Gallery, Miller Art Museum and West Bend Gallery of Fine Arts (all WI), Lee Hall Gallery/N.M.U. (MI), and Deer Path Art Gallery (IL).

Lynn Gilchrist is in love with Door County- its beauty, its people, its hidden wonders, its essence.... and it shows, in some way, in almost every painting she does .
"I go to nature for contemplation, recreation, enrichment, and wonder. Being able to run outdoors and to paint outdoors in Door County is a great joy, with Lake Michigan, the fields and woods all around. The pursuits intertwine: running can open one's eyes and be a form of meditation and doing art can feel like a physical race in itself. While plain air painting the artist may be staring but is no longer day-dreaming. One needs to paint fast and in the process makes quick choices that are usually more true to one's soul."

The exhibit features work from every decade of Gilchrist's expansive career and interests which means that in the midst of landscapes and nature studies, you'll find dogs watching tv, various self-portraits, girl-friends and just bright, whimsical paintings (including pastels) meant to be fun and engaging.  She quotes Henry Miller's vow to himself to do her work "calmly, joyously, and recklessly."

Door Peninsula Winery Makes Sizable Donation to Door CANcer

We just received this press release from Door Peninsula Winery .

---------

DOOR PENINSULA WINERY MAKES SIZABLE DONATION TO DOOR CANcer

STURGEON BAY – Door Peninsula Winery continued its commitment to philanthropy by making a donation of $2,186 to DOOR CANcer earlier this month at the annual Spring Fling event.

This year’s Miss Door County’s Outstanding Teen Sophia Pollman, whose father and grandparents own Door Peninsula Winery, presented the check at the event to DOOR CANcer’s vice president Barb Herdina before a capacity crowd at Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.
The money was raised as a result from the sales of the winery’s Sweet Survivor wine – a special bottling of their flagship Sweet Cherry wine. With every purchase, the winery sets aside $1 towards DOOR CANcer, in their aim to help families who are struggling to cope with a relative battling cancer.
Since the Sweet Survivor campaign was launched, the winery has donated over $6,000 over the last four years, continuing the tradition of Door Peninsula Winery giving back to organizations up and down the peninsula.

To see the check presentation, follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/DoorPeninsulaWinery/posts/10152379742977013

ABOUT DOOR CANcer:
DOOR CANcer, Inc. is a community-based voluntary organization dedicated to help serve Door County families with cancer in times of need. DOOR CANcer, Inc. strives to make life a little easier for those families affected by CANcer. We hope to alleviate some of the suffering through a financial aid program that is aimed to help those families who are finding it a serious drain, not only in the areas of medical care but in other areas of their lives.

ABOUT DOOR PENINSULA WINERY:

For 40 years, Door Peninsula Winery (DPW) has been a mainstay in Door County, producing the finest and largest selection of wines in all of Wisconsin. Established in a former 19th century two-room schoolhouse, DPW has utilized a wide variety of fruits into its line of dry and sweet wines. Through it all, a winning tradition exists within the wines. In 2013, Door Peninsula Winery was awarded seven bronze, six silver, four gold and three double gold medals.

Artist Donna Brown's Work at Door Peninsula Winery Gallery

“DONNA BROWN: IN HARMONY” TO BE ON DISPLAY AT THE GALLERY
STURGEON BAY – Donna Brown: In Harmony opens the 2014 season at the Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery with a reception Thursday, May 22 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Kalen Keir on saxophone. The collection will feature many works centered on her love for capturing nature and expressing it by using vibrant colors.

A Door County resident for over 20 years, Brown operates her own studio and gallery – the White Barn Gallery, in Baileys Harbor.

Brown has won awards in many juried shows and can be found in various public collections, including the Miller Art Museum, Door County Memorial Hospital, Marshfield Clinic, Wausau Public Library, Appleton VA Hospital and Northwest Mutual Insurance. For many years, she actively exhibited her work in national and regional art shows and therefore has many fans in distant locations.

The accomplished watercolorist divides her time between Mexico and the U.S. and loves observing the beauty and boundlessness of nature in both locales. She loves seeing her summer birds on their winter vacations in the south and has begun incorporating them into her imagery.

“The balance of nature is delicate,” Brown said. “It is my deepest hope that as you look at my work, you will consider your connection with the birds, butterflies or bees that you may find scattered in these compositions and seek ways to assure their continued presence and well-being while enjoying the imagery.

“These are my muses … flying in and out of my vision but leaving traces of their paths for me to wander and wonder and enjoy.”

Brown is always looking for new approaches ever more true to her inner vision. This passion has led her to explore printmaking as well as extensive experimentation with mixed materials, including encaustics. Aficionados and collectors appreciate Brown’s artistic integrity, lured by the certainty she has the courage to explore different media, new applications and fresh approaches.

FOR MORE ON DONNA BROWN: Check out new images and happenings at whitebarngallery.com and on Facebook as Donna Brown White Barn Gallery.

ABOUT THE GALLERY AT DOOR PENINSULA WINERY: The Gallery is a beautiful, dedicated space connecting Door Peninsula Winery, Door County Distillery and Bistro 42. Seasonal shows ensure that each visit will be unique offering works from local Door County artists.

Door Peninsula Winery Wins More Awards!

This just in for a great place, Door Peninsula Winery - winning more awards!

Door Peninsula Winery website

DPW WINS DOUBLE GOLD WITH ORIGINAL CHERRY WINE
AT FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

STURGEON BAY, WI – Three of Door Peninsula Winery’s wines won medals at the 14th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition (FIWC), held last weekend at the Plaza Hotel in Rochester, N.Y.

Sweet Cherry was awarded a double-gold medal, Blackberry received a gold medal and Plum Loco earned a silver medal.

The competition at the FLIWC was deep this year, with more than 3,700 wines entered. Wineries from 20 countries took part, including from every U.S. state as well as six Canadian provinces.

The double-gold award is particularly significant for Door Peninsula Winery.  Not only is the Sweet Cherry wine made with locally grown Door County cherries, it was the first wine produced upon the winery’s opening in 1974. While Door Peninsula Winery has since broadened its product line to include more than 45 different wines, Sweet Cherry remains its flagship product.

DPW’s Blackberry wine possesses strong dark fruit aromas and flavors with a touch of fall forest earthiness. The Plum Loco flavor is one of the winery’s popular blended wines, made with plum and cherry wines, with a hint of watermelon added.

ABOUT THE FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION:
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition is a worldwide wine-tasting showdown, which brings in 68 judges from 15 countries representing the best Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, sommeliers, educators and writers of wine. It also serves as a charity event, benefiting Camp Good Days and Special Times, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and families dealing with cancer.
