January Muscial Event at the White Gull Inn!

DoorCountyNavigator.com just received this press release for the next musical event (always awesome) at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek!  Plan on it!

__________

News Release

December 9, 2011

For publication during or before the week of January 2-6, 2012

Singer-Songwriters Lou & Berryman Return to White Gull Inn for Annual Concert

The singer-songwriter duo Lou and Peter Berryman will be featured in concert Wednesday, January 11, at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek. Tickets for the 8 PM concert, the third in a series of six scheduled at the inn this winter, are $16.00.

The Berrymans were some of the first folk musicians booked at the White Gull winter concert series, established in 1985, and have returned for a sold out performance each January for the past 26 years. Critics describe their original music as “intelligent and wickedly funny material which is never bawdy or risque but is rich with wordplay and witty images.” Lou and Peter Berryman began their musical partnership in high school in Appleton, Wisconsin, in the nineteen sixties. By the eighties, they had established themselves as a prominent feature of the songwriting subculture of Wisconsin's capital, playing their original material every week for almost ten years in the run-down but trendy music room of Madison's Club de Wash. Gradually expanding their circuit, they began crisscrossing the continent and gaining national attention with appearances on such programs as Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion and NPR's Weekend Edition. Regular appearances at festivals and folk music clubs all across the country now serve as venues for the songs contained in their twelve recordings and three songbooks, which have been performed by everyone from Garrison Keillor to Peter, Paul and Mary.

An optional pre-concert fixed price dinner will be served at 6 PM. The menu consists of pork loin chop stuffed with Italian sausage, fennel garlic mashed potatoes and cranberry walnut pie for dessert. Price of the dinner is $19.95.

Tickets for the concert, dinner reservations and information are available by calling the White Gull Inn at 800-624-1987.

The Honey Dewdrops, an award winning, nationally touring husband and wife folk duet, will be featured Wednesday, April 6, at the White Gull Inn. Tickets for the 8 PM concert, the seventh and final concert of the season at the Fish Creek inn, are $15. Birch Creek receives Arts Board grant

Birch Creek Music Performance Center, Egg Harbor, is pleased to announce that it has received a grant of $26,825 from the Wisconsin Arts Board. This grant, awarded through the Creation & Presentation Program, supports Birch Creek’s mission of providing intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians.

The ongoing commitment from the State of Wisconsin to fund the arts in local communities is vital. Birch Creek will serve more than 11,000 people in Door County with performances and educational programs in 2010.

Additionally, local school students in all five Door County public schools have benefited from Birch Creek’s annual “Artists in the Schools” outreach program, which has served more than 3,000 students since its inception in 2001-2002. “Artists in the Schools” engages youth in learning a wide variety of music from our professional faculty members, and in the ethnic and social lessons that surround each genre’s history.

Birch Creek’s evening concerts and daytime outreach concerts, made possible by Arts Board funding, allow the Egg Harbor school to bring nationally-known musicians to Door County such as Robert Hanford, Concertmaster of the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Chicago; as well as honored Wisconsin artists, like Vicki Peterson Jenks, Percussion Program Ensemble Director with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, Madison.

The grant programs through the Arts Board were retooled in 2008 so that meaningful funding could be provided to the greatest number of Wisconsin communities, including communities with rural populations like Door County. The State of Wisconsin recognizes that all communities, regardless of their populations, bring enjoyment and value to Wisconsin citizens.

Birch Creek has been a Door County education and entertainment center for 35 years.

Wisconsin Arts Board grants are awarded on a matching basis. Organizations that receive Arts Board funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds. The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes the arts, supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development, and serves as a resource for people of every culture and heritage in Wisconsin’s communities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Door Community Auditorium

Fish Creek, WI 54212-0397

Brandi Carlile to Grace DCA stage on Aug 22

Contemporary folk-rock singer Brandi Carlile will grace the Door Community Auditorium stage with her dynamic presence on Sunday, August 22.

Since her major-label debut in 2005, Brandi Carlile’s career has exploded on the folk-rock scene. Fans adore her throaty, passionate voice and her charming, relatable songwriting style. The twenty-nine year old from Ravensdale, WA, has collaborated with several notable musicians, among them Sir Elton John, who says of Carlile, “Brandi has an amazing voice. She’s a great songwriter and has a tremendous career ahead of her.” Sheryl Crow also commented on Carlile’s talent. “She has the most amazing voice I may have ever heard. Soulful. Country. Perfect in every way – and propelled by taste.”

Carlile has released three albums to date, Brandi Carlile (2005), The Story (2007), and Give Up The Ghost (2009), all of which have been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike.
Carlile’s voice is truly unique, standing out from all of the other female voices on the music scene today. Her tone has been compared to a mix of music industry greats Patsy Cline and Janis Joplin. A performance by Carlile is one that will leave her audience with chills and warm hearts all at the same time.

Tickets for this performance are selling quickly, as our Gold Circle seating is already sold out. Carlile’s performance set for August 21 at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, WI, has completely sold out as well. Terry Meyer-Matier, Executive Director of Big Top Chautauqua, is thrilled to have Brandi Carlile back this year. Meyer-Matier spoke of their providence in acquiring Carlile, “We had hired The Indigo Girls for a performance last year. We didn't know that they were planning on bringing their own opening act, so a couple months out they called and said the opener was Brandi Carlile! We were thrilled, because she was also on our wish list. Many people at the performance hadn't heard of Brandi yet, but she was all the buzz after her performance. So we definitely had to bring her back.”

Underwriting for this performance was generously provided by Main Street Market in Egg Harbor, WI.
Brandi Carlile is in concert at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, at Door Community Auditorium, 3926 State 42, Fish Creek. Tickets are $30-$44 and can be reserved by visiting the auditorium box office, calling the box office at 868-2728, or ordering online at http://www.dcauditorium.org/ .

Marshall Tucker Band - September 7th!

Yep - Marshall Tucker Band is coming to town soon at the Door Community Auditorium! Here is the Press Release we just received:

_______

The Door Community Auditorium
Presents
The Marshall Tucker Band

The Marshall Tucker Band has been a powerful force in the music world since its founding in 1972. Performing everything from Southern rock, country, blues, and all things in-between, the South Carolina natives are powerful musicians. Appearing for one night only on the Door Community Auditorium stage, The Marshall Tucker Band will perform on Sunday, September 7th at 7:00 pm.
The story behind The Marshall Tucker Band begins with founding member Doug Gray. Teaming up with brothers Tommy and Toy Caldwell, Paul T. Riddle, George McCorkle, and Jerry Eubanks, the new band took its moniker from a key ring with the name of a piano tuner.
And so The Marshall Tucker Band was born. In their very first year the band signed with Capricorn Records, the label that guided a number of groups to fame including The Allman Brothers and Wet Willie. The following year The Marshall Tucker Band opened for the Allman Brothers, but within the span of 12 months the group was headlining their own shows.
With a platinum-plus sales debut album as evidence of their immediate success, The Marshall Tucker Band won raves from fans and critics alike. Rolling Stone magazine reviewed The Marshall Tucker Band’s first album calling it “a moving piece of work…it’s tight, smoking music, with sharp, ringing lead guitar work and sure vocals that are grittily felt but never strained…music from the Carolina soil, full of blues and gospel influences. Each cut is a real song…”
In the course of their 36-year career, The Marshall Tucker Band has been awarded seven consecutive gold or platinum albums and multiple hit singles. Performing no less than 150 concerts each year, the band continues to play and record the classic rock and country music that has earned them a faithful following of fans.
All-time favorite Marshall Tucker songs include “Heard It In a Love Song,” “Fire On the Mountain,” and “Take the Highway.” According to Gray, “People have gotten married and buried to Marshall Tucker classics ‘Desert Skies’ and ‘Can’t You See.”’ The band’s most recent CD, “The Next Adventure,” was released last year.
The Marshall Tucker Band’s definitive blend of rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, country, and gospel has influenced major country acts like Alabama, The Kentucky Headhunters, and Travis Tritt. And as the recent generation “experiences” the music of this classic band, new fans are discovering The Marshall Tucker Band all over again.
“As we’ve become older our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how older we get, we can still rock your socks off,” Gray grins.
Tickets for The Marshall Tucker Band are $40, $35, and $30, and are available at the Door Community Auditorium box office, by phone (920.868.2728), or via the www.dcauditorium.org. Box office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 – 3 pm; weekend show days, 11 – 3 pm; and one hour prior to a performance. The Door Community Auditorium is located in Fish Creek, just north of the town center on Highway 42.
