Ephraim Moravian Church hosts Annual Fall Luncheon

Ephraim Moravian Church hosts Annual Fall Luncheon & Sale

In 1853, Andreas Iverson, a Moravian minister and evangelist from Norway, founded Door County’s first church. Today, its white steeple is a proud tribute to the hardy souls who survived countless challenges to establish their church in the wilderness. Serving the community, Ephraim Moravian Church ministries provides free meals, short-term emergency aid, supports Feed My People, and participates in Crop Walk.

In keeping with its dedication to serve, the Women of Ephraim Moravian Church will host their Annual Fall Luncheon & Sale on Saturday, October 29 from 11 am to 2 pm. The “famous” sloppy Joe sandwich accompanied by generous slices of pie will be served for lunch. Homemade bakery items, Moravian holiday items, and plants will also be available for purchase,

“The women of the church have hosted this event for at least 75 years. I remember my mother being involved in the luncheon and sale when I was a little girl; it has always been an important event,” recalled event chair Eunice Rutherford. “We utilized the Ephraim Village Hall when nothing else was held there.”

Throughout its history, the luncheon and sale has evolved. “Once upon a time a rummage sale was a huge part of the event,” said Rutherford. “We continue to ‘tweak,’ reviewing the event each year, improving where we can to make it better. This year we are featuring a holiday boutique and silent auction which will include themed gift baskets, a silver pendant, and a gourmet dinner for six.”

Proceeds from the Ephraim Moravian Church Annual Luncheon & Sale will support special projects. “This year we are working on the restoration of church furnishings,” said Rutherford. “Handicapped accessibility to the church is an immediate need, and this event will help provide for removal of the old carpeting and the restoration of the hardwood floors.”

The Ephraim Moravian Church Annual Fall Luncheon & Sale will be held at the Ephraim Village Hall located at 9996 Water Street. The Ephraim Moravian Church is located at 9970 Moravian Street. Through the Eyes of Sophia! Sophia Reviews Watch Have?

Here is Sophia's first review!
_________
Through the eyes of Sophia (8 years old)……

I have ate at Watcha Have 3 times. I always get the naked dog. This is a regular hotdog with nothing on it. I put ketchup on it only. The hot dog is really good and I like the bun. I met Chuck the owner and he took a picture of me and my dad. They are having a hot dog eating contest on the 4th of July and my dad entered it. My sister likes the fresh squeezed lemonade and I like the kind of milk they have. The food is good and there are fun things for kids to eat like the P.P.B & J which is a warm peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on special bread. They also have corndogs, chicken tenders, nachos, French fries, caramel apples, caramel corn and cheese corn for kids to eat. I like to order at the counter and then sit at a table by the window.

I like going to eat at Watcha Have because I love their hot dogs and everyone is very friendly. After I am done with my hot dog I like to go to the park that is right next door. You should go to Watcha Have because the food is good and the people are nice.

Editor's note:  For the BLOG:

First annual hot dog eating contest held at Watcha Have. Starts just after the parade on July 4th. Everyone welcome. Cost is just 10 bucks and gets you all the dogs you can eat and a T-shirt! The proceeds go to the Egg Harbor Historical Society.
