DPW WINS DOUBLE GOLD WITH ORIGINAL CHERRY WINE
AT FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

STURGEON BAY, WI – Three of Door Peninsula Winery’s wines won medals at the 14th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition (FIWC), held last weekend at the Plaza Hotel in Rochester, N.Y.

Sweet Cherry was awarded a double-gold medal, Blackberry received a gold medal and Plum Loco earned a silver medal.

The competition at the FLIWC was deep this year, with more than 3,700 wines entered. Wineries from 20 countries took part, including from every U.S. state as well as six Canadian provinces.

The double-gold award is particularly significant for Door Peninsula Winery.  Not only is the Sweet Cherry wine made with locally grown Door County cherries, it was the first wine produced upon the winery’s opening in 1974. While Door Peninsula Winery has since broadened its product line to include more than 45 different wines, Sweet Cherry remains its flagship product.

DPW’s Blackberry wine possesses strong dark fruit aromas and flavors with a touch of fall forest earthiness. The Plum Loco flavor is one of the winery’s popular blended wines, made with plum and cherry wines, with a hint of watermelon added.

ABOUT THE FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION:
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition is a worldwide wine-tasting showdown, which brings in 68 judges from 15 countries representing the best Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, sommeliers, educators and writers of wine. It also serves as a charity event, benefiting Camp Good Days and Special Times, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and families dealing with cancer.
