DOOR PENINSULA WINERY MAKES SIZABLE DONATION TO DOOR CANcer

STURGEON BAY – Door Peninsula Winery continued its commitment to philanthropy by making a donation of $2,186 to DOOR CANcer earlier this month at the annual Spring Fling event.

This year’s Miss Door County’s Outstanding Teen Sophia Pollman, whose father and grandparents own Door Peninsula Winery, presented the check at the event to DOOR CANcer’s vice president Barb Herdina before a capacity crowd at Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.
The money was raised as a result from the sales of the winery’s Sweet Survivor wine – a special bottling of their flagship Sweet Cherry wine. With every purchase, the winery sets aside $1 towards DOOR CANcer, in their aim to help families who are struggling to cope with a relative battling cancer.
Since the Sweet Survivor campaign was launched, the winery has donated over $6,000 over the last four years, continuing the tradition of Door Peninsula Winery giving back to organizations up and down the peninsula.

“DONNA BROWN: IN HARMONY” TO BE ON DISPLAY AT THE GALLERY
STURGEON BAY – Donna Brown: In Harmony opens the 2014 season at the Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery with a reception Thursday, May 22 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Kalen Keir on saxophone. The collection will feature many works centered on her love for capturing nature and expressing it by using vibrant colors.

A Door County resident for over 20 years, Brown operates her own studio and gallery – the White Barn Gallery, in Baileys Harbor.

Brown has won awards in many juried shows and can be found in various public collections, including the Miller Art Museum, Door County Memorial Hospital, Marshfield Clinic, Wausau Public Library, Appleton VA Hospital and Northwest Mutual Insurance. For many years, she actively exhibited her work in national and regional art shows and therefore has many fans in distant locations.

The accomplished watercolorist divides her time between Mexico and the U.S. and loves observing the beauty and boundlessness of nature in both locales. She loves seeing her summer birds on their winter vacations in the south and has begun incorporating them into her imagery.

“The balance of nature is delicate,” Brown said. “It is my deepest hope that as you look at my work, you will consider your connection with the birds, butterflies or bees that you may find scattered in these compositions and seek ways to assure their continued presence and well-being while enjoying the imagery.

“These are my muses … flying in and out of my vision but leaving traces of their paths for me to wander and wonder and enjoy.”

Brown is always looking for new approaches ever more true to her inner vision. This passion has led her to explore printmaking as well as extensive experimentation with mixed materials, including encaustics. Aficionados and collectors appreciate Brown’s artistic integrity, lured by the certainty she has the courage to explore different media, new applications and fresh approaches.
