Cookery Celebrates Grand Opening with Highland Road

(June 24, 2009 – Fish Creek) - The Cookery is celebrating the opening of its new restaurant on Sunday, July 5 at 8 pm with bluegrass music by Highland Road. After a fire devastated the restaurant last May, The Cookery reopened its doors on June 4 with a new building that includes the restaurant as well as a new second level wine bar. “We are very excited to be back,” Dick Skare, owner of the restaurant commented, “It feels great to be running a restaurant again and seeing our customers back in the dining room.”

It was July 4th weekend of 1977 that Dick and Carol Skare opened the doors of The Cookery after having purchased it a month an half earlier on their honeymoon in Door County. “We thought it would be fitting to have a grand opening celebration on the 4th of July weekend,” Carol Skare, owner of the business, said.

Highland Road will be playing a combination of bluegrass, country and folk music in The Cookery’s wine bar. “We thought that Highland Road would be the perfect band to help us celebrate reopening,” Carol said, “We know all of the members of the band well and it is great to have our friends playing to help us celebrate.”

In addition to the music, The Cookery will be serving their Sunday “beer and burger” feature that night, which includes a cheese burger, fries and a beer for $10. Cupcakes made by Karin, Dick and Carol’s daughter, will also be served during the concert.

The Cookery serves lunch and dinner daily as well as breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A new addition to the restaurant is a second level water view wine bar. The wine bar serves light fare and desserts as well as bakery, espresso and coffee on weekend mornings. The Cookery is located at 4135 Highway 42, Fish Creek.
