DoorCountyNavigator.com just received this press release from the Door Peninsula Winery
Rolf Olson exhibition
to get “Up Close and Personal”
The newest exhibition to come to The Gallery at Door
Peninsula Winery will feature the works of award-winning poet and photographer
Rolf Olson. The new show will be titled “Door County: Up Close and Personal”.
Olson has been a craftsman in wood and metal for 25 years
working in Door County as a boat builder and joiner, designing and building
doors, cabinets, furniture and functional objects. Olson said he has always
“enjoyed clean, simple and elegant design” and his photographs “reflect that
aesthetic.”
“I am drawn to the resonant factor of a landscape, (which)
elicits a question or an emotional response from
the viewer,” Olson said. “Hopefully there will be more content than just the object itself.”
Olson’s exhibition will feature selected photographs
composed and framed without digital manipulation and minimal cropping. Most of
the images are captured with an older Canon Powershot S3 IS and featured in the
exhibit will be photographs of Door County “up close” and truly “personal”.
The work from the Egg Harbor resident has been featured in
the Peninsula Pulse, the UU Gallery in Ephraim and Glas in Sturgeon Bay. Next
spring, a show of his photographs and poetry corresponding with paintings of
Margaret Lockwood will be featured at Woodwalk Gallery.
The exhibition opened on Nov. 1 and will be on display
during the entire off-season.
The Gallery at Door Peninsula Winery is part of the complex
within Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville, which includes Door County
Distillery and Bistro 42. Our seasonal shows ensures each visit will be unique
offering works from local Door County artist, primarily working with
two-dimensional pieces.
The Gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with
extended evening hours when the Bistro 42 is serving dinner.
