New Water Activities Section!

We just revamped our Water Activities section to make it more meaningful to our users and to make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for. This was a suggestion of one of our sponsors, Shoreline Charters (a great scenic charter service out of the Sister Bay Marina) and it was a great one - so we did it!

You can find it off our Activities Homepage! Let us know, here, what you think, by clicking the Comments button below!

Casey's Inn Looking Good!

One of our locals sent us this as an updated report on the reopening of Casey's Inn in Egg Harbor - some great food getting cooked up there!

"Dined again at Casey's in Egg Harbor and happened to catch a beautiful Door County sunset from the bar. They've been open about a month now, and the menu continues to expand. In addition to their lunch menu they are now offering selected dinner items, with a larger menu coming soon.

Casey's is now a BBQ and Texas Smokehouse restaurant, or as many refer to this genre, " a barbecue joint". Proof is when you see the big new smoker in the parking lot! The food is great and the smoke flavor is not overdone. Last night I had 1/2 rack of ribs, corn fritters, mac & cheese, and homemade jalapeno corn bread. Good eatin' and the help is super friendly!"

Here and there

So much is going on, so many voices have been heard from, so sorry I haven’t written on the blog. Let’s see, I’m going to the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art fair this weekend. This fair (open 10 am to 4 pm. May 24 and 25) moved from the market square a couple years ago to Sunset Park, Third Ave. and Florida St.; it’s close to the shipbuilders.
I love the grassy area, the historic setting for this event and the art by qualified people. Last year, I bought an oil painting by Shan Bryan-Hanson, a wonderful Door County-based painter, who also works at the Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art, Sturgeon Bay. If enough time allows, we may head to Maifest, Jacksonport, too. The crafts are nice, and the setting is the lakeside.
Some people are kind of worried about those trademark Door County cherries. A harsh winter and dry conditions have affected amount of blossoms, but Loretta Robertoy, owner of Hyline Orchard, Fish Creek, told me that good pollinating weather (nice and warm as blossoms arrive) can help make it a good crop even though there are fewer blossoms overall. So keep a lookout for those pretty cherry blossoms on trees now, and we’ll have cherries in July, yes?
The Savory Spoon Cooking School, Ellison Bay, is offering a record 80 classes this year, so if you’re the culinary kind, be sure to get updated on all going on there. Even if you don’t cook, they have some tempting offerings like Tapas Tuesdays and Wine Wednesdays. On the former, they are making the tapas for tastings, and the latter comes with tips by a wine expert. The adjacent marketplace is focusing on locally made, grown and organic.
See you here and there on the Door Peninsula, Donna Marie Pocius, freelance writer.

Another Award for DoorCountyNavigator.com!

In the Winter 2007/2008 edition of Door County Magazine, they listed the winners of the "Best of Door County" Awards, voted on by Door County Magazine subscribers. For websites, they evaluated all Door County websites (independently operated like ours, and official), including us and the Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB). DoorCountyNavigator.com was voted "Best Website 2008 2nd Place" - with only the DCVB (not an independent site of course) ahead of us (congrats to them!) - making us the #1 Independent Door County site - a genuine accomplishment that we are extremely proud of achieving! Thank you readers and supporters! Without our regular users, and all the new users we see each day, we would not have achieved this wonderful award. Thank you!!

This now makes the total number of awards DoorCountyNavigator.com has won 25!!

We will keep working hard to keep us the best independent Door County Wisconsin website around! And we'll keep supporting the DCVB too! So keep coming back to your award winning site, DoorCountyNavigator.com!
